Here is a small sampling of the extraordinary artists exhibiting at TAF 2012:

Sylvia Hyman has been sculpting in clay for the last 49 years of her creative and productive 94 years of life. She is our own ‘Nashville Treasure’. Currently working with a form of sculpture know as “super-realism” or “trompe l’oeil” (fool the eye), Sylvia chooses familiar objects such as old boxes and baskets, filling them with contents that “stir the mind”, capturing not only the appearance of things, but their essential nature, as well. Now the subject of a new book, “The Intriguing Vision of Sylvia Hyman”, we are proud to have 2008 and 2010’s TAF 1st Place In Sculpture award-winner share her talents with TAF once again.

Binh Pho, once a Vietnamese refuge now living in the Chicago area, is a world class wood turner and artist, whose works are on display world-wide, including the Smithsonian Museum of Art. Internationally known, and respected as both an artist and a teacher, he returns to TAF this year with his current focus on works of glass. His art “comes from memories, culture, Zen mind” and his own thoughts”. Negative spaces inspire him, as “they represent the unseen weight of the unknown”, which he uses to take the viewers into his work.

Lisa Svedberg has over 20 years of experience creating high carat gold and platinum jewelry with unusually cut precious gemstones and natural crystals. Dividing her time between her studio in Maine, London & Sydney, extensive travel has inspired exciting new designs especially in the use of Australian opal, South Sea pearls, tourmaline and tanzanite. Her original style exemplifies superb craftsmanship, bringing constant delight to the discerning jewelry collector

Rusty Wolfe is a self-taught artist, woodworker, designer, musician, songwriter and entrepreneur, who relies on his own diversity in creating a product with the ability to open new doors where both “visual creativity & inventiveness come together”. Rusty, former owner of the Finer Things Gallery, will be bringing his modern & unique 2 & 3-dimentional works to delight TAF attendees

Ann Makuck used her love of art, hard work and talent to become Creative Director for the well-known Rossin Creative Group, where she was involved in product & package design, photography & illustration for clients such as Texaco and Pepsico. When Rossin closed its doors, Ann began her second career receiving certification in botanical illustration from the New York Botanical Garden. She is an award-winning botanical artist, passionate about gardening and the outdoors in general. Of her work, Makuck says “In order to bridge the gap between scientific illustration and plant portraits…you must let go and draw from the heart”.

Joey Richardson grew up surrounded by trees on a small farm in Lincolnshire, England, where her love for wood, nature, fauna and flora developed. In 2002 her great enthusiasm for woodturning evolved into a full-time profession. She was accepted into the Register of Professional Turners, which is supported by the Worshipful Company of Turners of London, who, in 2005, awarded her a scholarship which allowed her to study in America, where turned wood is highly prized as a collectable art. Working with such great teachers as Binh Pho, she learned to refine her traditional methods and to add new, innovative techniques: piercing, color and texture.

Diane Davich Craig represents TAF’s commitment to showcase the best local emerging artists. Growing up in the country in Columbia, TN, the lack of things to do besides play music or draw, started Diane on her careers. Bringing inanimate objects to life, painting neon signs and window reflections, using great detail and hundreds of hours, Diane’s oil on panels work will delight and amuse all.

Here is a sampling of the artists exhibiting Judaic works at TAF 2012:

Toby Klein is a mixed media artist, whose work is contemporary and ranges from different degrees of abstraction and experimental to representation. Like a Kaleidoscope, her art is created with a burst of color, symmetry of design and motion.

Gary Rosenthal has been sculpting in welded metals for almost 30 years. He creates popular and unique lines of Judaic art, combining copper, brass and steel with brilliant fused glass, in a contemporary style rooted in tradition. His inspiration comes from our rich Jewish history which tells us it’s a blessing, a mitzvah, to make beautiful, functional art. His work has been presented to Presidents Carter, Clinton and Bush as well as celebrities as varied at Bette Midler, John Travolta and Tony Randall, and found on display in many fine galleries, private collections and top-notch museums.

Megan Trace Tenenbaum’s passion lies in making Judaic (mezuzahs) and Jewish- inspired jewelry. Her work is handmade with love, and each piece one of a kind. The young Georgian has had her work shown nationally and in Jerusalem, and is excited about upcoming inclusion in The Moses Project: The Moses Monument and World Center for Jewish Leadership in Tel Aviv. "If something only occurs once a person’s lifetime, then it is my belief…that it must be elevated and celebrated…”

James Wilbat studied water-color and drawing as a youngster and his passion for art continued while his focus shifted from painting to ceramics to his current works in glass. Fortunate to study under some of the best-known glass blowers, the multiple award-winner developed his own unique style which he describes as “a combination of Old World Glass and contemporary design”, reflecting his love of Abstract Expressionist painting.
